Welcome to Our First Issue

We are extremely excited to welcome you to the first issue of Varsity Monthly! Every month we will bring you full color, glossy coverage of as many sports in our 10 school area as we possibly can.

As an overzealous sports enthusiast at heart, going into this adventure, I must admit, I was the eternal optimist and perhaps a bit naïve, and was not prepared for some of the negativity we would encounter. Most people were surprised that we would want to start a business in this area during such a challenging economic time. We believe that positive people see opportunity where others do not. Our publisher began his first magazine on October 11, 2001, one month after 9/11. Now 10 years later, it is distributed in 16 states throughout the country with a success and following he never imagined possible. Just like most athletes will tell you, attitude is everything and highly contagious.

We are not trying to compete with the area’s existing newspapers. Most have been here forever and do a wonderful job of bringing you the daily and weekly news and sports coverage. Varsity Monthly intends to bring you stories beyond the scores and stats, fabulous pictures in a high quality magazine and hopefully a sense of pride for being a part of this special community.

We believe in the Mid Michigan area, that even in hard times it is still a very safe place to live and to give children an exceptional education for free, and where athletics and a moral code are intrinsic to its foundation. We hope that this magazine showcases the wealth of talent and great kids, coaches and boosters the area has to be proud of and gives everyone a few minutes of enjoyment while reading about the inspiring athletes that live here or reliving great sports moments each month.
